BottomFeeder

Released September 23, 2006 (link may only be available to site donors), BottomFeeder was an addon created by Norganna as a "thanks" for the donors at the site. It added an extra tab to the AH, which, when turned on, would automatically scan the first and last tabs of the AH, looking for bargains that were just listed or were about to expire. It was later enhanced to allow for "BaseRules", or arbitrary pieces of Lua code which users could construct to create complex rules that BottomFeeder would use in its searches.

Eventually, on October 16, 2006, Blizzard asked Norganna not to allow automated purchasing, and we withdrew the addon from our site (later posting a version which performed a similar lookup, but required the user to click a button each time). Blizzard eventually changed their APIs to disallow automated purchasing, and require a hardware event for each auction purchase. This "top and bottom scanning" is now an integrated part of the Auctioneer Search UI.

The beauty of BottomFeeder was that, given a good price database, it could automatically, with no user intervention, purchase "good deal" auctions as fast as other users could list them. It was a phenomenal advantage, and one which the site donors of the time put to good use. Of course, it could also spend your money on garbage faster than you could blink, if set up improperly... Luckily, most donors managed to avoid this problem, and earned many (tens of) thousands of gold (which back in Vanilla WoW was an enormous amount) during the less than one month that it was available.

Release Notes

Welcome to BottomFeeder discussion, and thankyou once again for supporting us.

New version 1.03 is out.

New features: - Improved scanning support (you can now have BottomFeeder scan *while* you are scanning using Auctioneer) - BottomFeeder log window "flashes" blue when it reads the page results. - Change to algorithm. Bottom feeder now uses the lowest of either the conservative price or the auctioneer median as the base price for the item. - A lot of code refactoring / neatening / commenting. New options: - VendorProfit - Allows you to set a minimum profit on vendor items (default is 20 copper) - CommonMult - Allows you to specify the multiplier that gets applied to the pctprofit and minprofit values when the item is white (no we're not racist here, much) - MinSeen - If you have Auctioneer loaded, and the item hasn't been seen this many times or more byy Auctioneer, then it won't be bought. Note that this option may stop you from picking up some *really* good bargains.... So I'm thinking about how to put in an "unless" option into this, maybe you guys have some ideas? - SafetyNet - After my 1000g Fiery Core fiasco, I put in this option to specify maximum quantity / spendage on any 1 single item. Now this option doesn't affect the buyout of vendor, disenchant, snatch or worth buyouts, just items that are bought because of the resale rules. New commands: - unignore <item> - it unignores the item. Fixes: - Made fixes to the stack price calculation code. Stacked snatches should now work correctly. Pricelist: - Updated as of 01:05 Sep 25, 2006. Since this code is different, I'd recommend not just installing it and walking afk... Just watch it for a while to make sure it's doing what you want it to.
