How to use the Auctioneer Interface

This wiki describes the graphical user interface for auctioneer which is embedded in the AH-user interface. For the command-interface of Auctioneer see Slash commands list

Please note that some of the AH tabs described below are actually separate AddOns from the Auctioneer family, and must be installed in order to be seen and used. They are all found in the Auctioneer Complete distributions.

The current description is based on version: 3.6.0.0930. Some updating from 3.9 has been done, particularly on the Browse tab.

To Do: update to 3.8, 3.9, 4.0

Main/Opening window: The AH Browse tab

Auctioneer functionality on this tab is broken into two sections: while searching, and while scanning.

While Searching

While searching, the browse tab basically works like the stock AH interface for searches. There are a few interface enhancements, however.
  • The scan button in the lower left. Pressing this button starts a scan. Please see the scanning section below for more information.
  • Three additional icons are added on the top left.
    • The Reset button looks like a biohazard symbol and clears all auction search parameters.
    • The Refresh button looks like a recycle symbol and does nothing but reload the current page with the current search terms.
    • The Sorting button looks like a bullseye and when you click it normally, it sorts by buyout price (rather than bid price, the AH default). If you hold shift while clicking it, it will sort by itemname.
  • Additional functionality for the next and previous page arrows at the bottom of the search (if your search yields more than 50 results). The Next/Previous pages buttons now will step forward 5 pages with Shift held down, 10 pages with Alt held and to the start/end with Control held.
  • The Tradeskill group on the left hand side now has subcategories listed. (Thanks go to Qzot for this)

While Scanning

The visible Auctioneer-functionality on this window exists out of the scan button (in the lower left corner of the AH window). When pressing this button Auctioneer starts scanning the AH-database. While scanning the main window will display something like the following example:
Auctioneer: scanning auction page 11 out of 129
        Auctions per second: 9.35
   Estimated time left: 10 Mins 30 Secs

The explanation of this is fairly obvious, but to be complete:
  • The first line shows which on which "page" of the AH database Auctioneer is and how many "pages" there are in the database. (With "page" is meant all the items that are displayed at once in the AH window.).
  • The second line shows the number of auctions that are scanned per second. The higher this number the shorter the scan takes (obvious ;-)>). The number of items scanned per second can drop because of a number of reasons:
    • Latency, although sometimes when the latency meter is red I still have scans of 9 and higher;
    • Checking another AH windows: checking other auctioneer pages tends to slow down scanning. Especially the Transactions window slows the scanning down (I found out);
    • Doing other things with your internet (e.g. getting mail, browsing the Auctioneer-forum ;-)>, listening to internet-radio, etcetera). Although in my experience it slows scanning only marginally down.
    • The distance between you and the server.
  • The last line just calculates displays how much time it still takes before scanning is finished.

While Auctioneer is scanning you can go and do something else (maybe once in a while press space bar to make sure you do not become AFK (for too long)).

It sometimes happens that a page takes more than 20 seconds to scan. In that situation a warning is given in the chat.

When Auctioneer has finished scanning the following lines are displayed both in the AH window as in chat (again just an example):
 Total auctions scanned: 6378
  New auctions scanned: 4067
   Previously scanned: 2311
Defunct auctions removed: 1237

Again a brief explanation:
  • Line 1: The number of auctions that Auctioneer has seen in the database.
  • Line 2: The number of new items found in the database (items that were put up for auction after the previous scan, not item types never seen).
  • Line 3: Well the name says it all. Items that Auctioneer did scan in a previous scan.
  • Line 4: Items that are removed from the database, since they are either sold or send back to the persons who auctioned them off.

Bid Tab

Currently there is no Auctioneer functionality in this tab, for more information on how this tab and the default Blizzard Auction House UI work go to the Game Guide>Auction House link

The AH/Auctioneer auction window

The Auction window is again basically a Blizzard window. But Auctioneer enhanced it. It used to be also THE Auctioneer posting center, but nowadays Auctioneer added the Post Auctions tab, which is better for using with Auctioneer (in my opinion).

The basic things that Auctioneer added to the Auction window (left pane only):
  • Starting Price: Auctioneer will fill in Bid price it suggests here (determined from the prices it has seen so far);
  • Buyout Price: Auctioneer will fill in the Buyout price it suggests here (determined from the prices it has seen so far);
  • Deposit: Shows the price that AH at takes as a fee. Note: this fee is paid back when the item sells, but it should not be mixed up with the AH tax that AH gets when an item is sold (so when an item is sold the deposit comes back to the seller, but AH gets some tax, which can be lower or higher than the deposit fee);
  • Remember my price checkbox: If this checkbox is marked Auctioneer will use your custom price next time (if I understood correctly (correct this if not!!));
  • Info window: The info window contains the following information (example):
30 historical 1g97s
17 last scan 1g90s
Snapshot low 70s89c
Market price 1g90s
Original Bid 18s75c
    • historical: How many times the item has been seen and what the median price is for that count;
    • last scan: How many times the item has been seen in the last scan and for what median price is for that count;
    • Snapshot low: The lowest price seen in the last scan;
    • Market price: The buyout median for the item;
    • Original Bid: Starting price suggested by Blizzard.

Post Auctions Tab

Post Auctions tab

Post Auctions tab

This tab is THE core tab for posting items identified by Auctioneer to auction off. Like I said in the Auction tab story, that was the old tab to post auctions, this is nowadays the main tab.

When you want to post an item you drag it to the square in the upper left corner, which then shows the item (in the example picture showing a ring). Next automatically Auctioneer will fill in the Starting price and Buyout price and the time (24 hours) and it will show the deposit price.

If you did not change the starting price, Auctioneer will display the Pricing model (see Basic Auctioneer Usage)

If you don't want to use the time you simply change it to 4 or 8 hours. (No further impact for Auctioneer, except on the deposit price)

If you change the Starting price or Buyout price Auctioneer will change the dropbox to "Custom Price" (iso "Auctioneer Price") and a checkbox "Make fixed price" will appear, which (I assume, but I never used it) is the same as the "Remember my price" checkbox on the "Bid" Tab.

Last, but not least, it shows how many items you'll sell.

Another big advantage is that you can see who is bidding what and how many items they are bidding with in the left pane for the same item you want to sell. There are 4 different views for the right pane according to the GUI.
  1. Bid per item
  2. Bid total
  3. Buyout per item
  4. Buyout total

The right pane will show you if a competitor is cheaper than you according to the selected items (Bid (per), Buyout (per)). It is too bad that currently you cant directly buyout from this pane, since when you post an item you directly see the competitors that are selling cheaper than you. Thus currently you have to go to the main window and manually search them out there to buy them out.
